Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges of inserting subscripts in text within the diagrams.net app, specifically regarding the notation for mathematical expressions. Participants explore methods for achieving the desired formatting, including the use of LaTeX.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about inserting the text ##f_{2,G_2}## with a subscript to ##G## in the diagrams.net app.
  • Another participant claims they can successfully use the x2 button to insert subscripts.
  • A participant expresses confusion about how to write the second 2 in ##G_2## and seeks clarification.
  • Some participants suggest that inserting a subscript to a subscript may not be possible.
  • One participant proposes using the old "_" method as an alternative for subscripting.
  • Another participant mentions the possibility of using tikz in LaTeX, noting its complexity.
  • A later reply suggests selecting Extras -> Mathematical typesetting to use LaTeX for formatting, providing an example of how to write the expression correctly.
  • One participant expresses gratitude for the clarification and reflects on their own exploration of the app.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no clear consensus on the ability to insert a subscript to a subscript, with some participants asserting it is not possible while others suggest alternative methods. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the best approach to achieve the desired formatting.

Contextual Notes

Participants mention different methods for subscripting, but there are limitations regarding the app's capabilities and the complexity of alternative solutions like LaTeX.

I want to inset the following text ##f_{2,G_2}##, but it seems I cannot include a subscript to ##G## in the following app:
https://app.diagrams.net
am I missing something? can it be done?
Thanks!

I mean how to write the second 2 in ##G_2##? where I want the following to be typed: ##f_{2,G_2}##.

Subscript to a subscript? It seems that is not possible.

OK, then I'll use the old "_".

It looks like an emoticon...

Or maybe use something else, like tikz in LaTeX (which is, BTW, a bit complex).

Oh I see!

Select Extras -> Mathematical typesetting and then you can use ## \LaTeX ## e.g. \(f_{2,G_2}\)

Thanks, you are a genius! should have played around with the app myself, I guess I would have found it eventually... nonetheless thanks!
