Homework Statement

Assume the wooden ruler is balanced and that it has uniform density. If the wood is replaced by metal, increasing the mass and density of the ruler without changing its dimensions (and remaining uniform), the ruler will...

(Assume the length of the ruler is 1 meter.)

Looks like this:

-------Om--|------------------ <===ruler , Om <== shows the hanged mass 'm', | <== shows where the ruler is balanced.

a.tip toward m

b.be unbalanced, but the direction depends on the hanging mass, the mass of the ruler, and distances

c.still be balanced

d.tip away from m

Homework Equations

Mass x distance (from center of mass)

Clockwise = negative sign
Counter Clockwise = positive sign

The Attempt at a Solution

I am thinking it would MOVE AWAY from Mass M? What do you think? Please explain. Thanks.
