Other Is Data Science a good career Choice?

AI Thread Summary
Data science is currently a highly sought-after field, with significant demand projected to grow, resulting in an estimated 11.5 million jobs in analytics and data science by 2026, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. LinkedIn identifies data science and machine learning as its fastest-growing job categories. However, competition is fierce, making it challenging for aspiring data scientists to differentiate themselves. The profession is generally perceived as difficult, requiring substantial effort and long working hours. Finding a job in this field can also be tough, particularly for those who do not possess standout skills or experience. Educational programs offering hands-on experience, mentorship, and job placement opportunities are available to help individuals prepare for careers in data science. It is crucial for prospective students to thoroughly research programs, including curriculum, mentor qualifications, and job outcomes, before making a decision.

Hello @soniajessi,
:welcome: ##\qquad ## !

It comes across as a little bit funny that you should ask five (including the thread title) questions after an earlier post that answers many of them. Are you asking for yourself or for later reference in posts answering others ?

My direct answers to direct questions (in all modesty: pretty useless  ) :

  • Good career choice ? Yes and no.
  • In demand ? Good people (standing out as you say) are always in demand, everywhere, no matter what discipline. Fashionable professions attract a lot of riffraff.
  • Hard ? Yes
  • Lot of hours ? Yes
  • Hard to find a job ? Yes.
My question: what did you expect from posting this ?

Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
