SUMMARY

Earth Science is not relevant to engineering programs, particularly for students focused on mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or engineering sciences. Participants in the discussion unanimously agree that Earth Science does not contribute to the core competencies required in these fields. While it may be an interesting elective, it is not beneficial for students pursuing alternative energy or robotics within engineering disciplines. Students are advised to prioritize courses directly related to their major to maximize their educational investment.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with course selection processes in college programs.
  • Knowledge of elective courses and their relevance to major fields of study.
  • Awareness of the relationship between academic subjects and career paths in engineering.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the core curriculum requirements for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering programs.
  • Explore electives that align with alternative energy technologies and robotics.
  • Investigate the role of interdisciplinary studies in engineering education.
  • Learn about the impact of elective courses on career opportunities in engineering fields.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for college students pursuing engineering degrees, academic advisors guiding course selections, and anyone interested in understanding the relevance of various subjects to engineering careers.

Hello, I'm a college student interested in the field of engineering. So it's the time of the year again to select courses, and I happened to come across an Earth Science class that seemed interesting. However, I also don't want to waste my time and effort in some class that isn't too useful to my field, which is engineering (hasn't decided which engineering, but more towards non-bio e or chem-e, kinda inclined towards either mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or engineering sciences), and I was wondering whether Earth science is related to the field of my interest.
P.S.: Would Earth Science be tied to alternative energy or robotics?

no Earth science would be a waste of time for you. Now if you had to pick Earth science from a selection of electives then I would say go for it, but don't take extra classes that don't involve your major...unless you have a lot of time to kill.

from what I've seen Earth science would benefit electrical or mechanical programs zero percent.

TL;DR: How can I begin to gain an understanding of astronomy? Hello there, and thank you in advance to anyone that might answer this. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post a question like this, as I am new to this website and also very nervous about making a post that others might see/reply to. I am a freshman in high school and I am interested in astronomy. I want to learn about space, but I am not quite sure where to begin. Is there anything that I can do to seriously expand my...
