SUMMARY

Kundu & Cohen's "Fluid Mechanics" is often regarded as a graduate-level textbook, which may not be suitable for beginners in the subject. In contrast, "Fluid Mechanics" by Fox & McDonald is recommended by professors for undergraduate studies, particularly for its problem sets that align with course requirements. The 4th edition of Fox & McDonald is specifically noted for its clarity and comprehensiveness, making it a strong choice for students new to fluid mechanics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic fluid dynamics concepts
  • Familiarity with undergraduate-level physics
  • Knowledge of mathematical principles relevant to fluid mechanics
  • Experience with problem-solving in engineering contexts
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the differences between undergraduate and graduate fluid mechanics textbooks
  • Explore the specific contents and problem sets of Fox & McDonald’s 4th edition
  • Investigate supplementary resources for introductory fluid mechanics

I'm a Mechanical Engineering major and am starting Fluid Mechanics this semester. My professor suggested Fox's book, as he's going to take most problems from that book, though I've heard this book is really weak and I would like to buy something that I could dig further into the subject.

Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, Fox & McDonald is a very good undergraduate fluids text. I hvae the 4th edition - have not seen any others.

Thanks for your reply. I am seriously thinking about buying Fox & McDonald now. A friend of mine has suggested me to buy Fluid Mechanics by Kundu & Cohen, though most reviews are really good, some say this is more for a graduate level course. Can anyone tell me if this is a good introductory fluid mechanics text?
