SUMMARY

A conducting loop placed in orbit around the Earth can generate an electric current due to the changing magnetic flux. This principle is supported by experiments that have successfully harnessed power from solar wind using various methods. The effectiveness of such a system, however, depends on specific design details and implementation strategies.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic induction
  • Familiarity with magnetic flux concepts
  • Knowledge of solar wind properties
  • Basic principles of orbital mechanics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research electromagnetic induction in detail
  • Explore methods of harnessing energy from solar wind
  • Study the design of conducting loops for power generation
  • Investigate the effects of Earth's magnetic field on orbital systems
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, aerospace engineers, renewable energy researchers, and anyone interested in the intersection of orbital mechanics and electromagnetic energy generation.

So, I was wondering if a conducting loop was placed in orbit around the Earth would it be able to generate a current?

Welcome to PF;
In principle, sure - the magnetic flux through the loop would change over time.
There have been experiments generating power from solar wind by various methods: the devil is in the details.
