Mag and Direction of 3d Vectors

AI Thread Summary
To find the magnitude and direction of the vector C = -2i - 9j + 4k, the magnitude is calculated as 10 using the formula √(x² + y² + z²). To determine the angle from the +z-axis, the formula involves using the z-component (4) divided by the magnitude (10). For the direction in the xy-plane, the angle can be found using the arctangent of the y-component (-9) over the x-component (-2), with adjustments made for the correct quadrant. The discussion seeks clarity on these calculations and the specific formulas needed for angles. Understanding these concepts is essential for solving 3D vector problems effectively.

Homework Statement

Find the magnitude and direction of the following vectors.
C = -2 i - 9 j + 4 k

I found that the magnitude was 10. By using the square root of (4+9+4).

I don't know how to find:
Angle from +z-axis
and the direction in xy plane counter clockwise from the +x axis.

Thanks

gamma=Az divided by A

English please? is Az, 4k? Also, how do I find the direction in xy plane counter clockwise from the +x axis?

Thread 'Voltmeter readings for this circuit with switches'
TL;DR Summary: I would like to know the voltmeter readings on the two resistors separately in the picture in the following cases , When one of the keys is closed When both of them are opened (Knowing that the battery has negligible internal resistance) My thoughts for the first case , one of them must be 12 volt while the other is 0 The second case we'll I think both voltmeter readings should be 12 volt since they are both parallel to the battery and they involve the key within what the...
Thread 'Struggling to make relation between elastic force and height'
Hello guys this is what I tried so far. I used the UTS to calculate the force it needs when the rope tears. My idea was to make a relationship/ function that would give me the force depending on height. Yeah i couldnt find a way to solve it. I also thought about how I could use hooks law (how it was given to me in my script) with the thought of instead of having two part of a rope id have one singular rope from the middle to the top where I could find the difference in height. But the...
