Homework Statement

How many hydrogen bonds can methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate form with molecules of the same compind?

Homework Equations

N/A

The Attempt at a Solution

There's a hydroxyl group on the second carbon of the benzene ring and a double-bonded oxygen with 2(3?) lone pairs, so I'm thinking that it would form 2 hydrogen bonds, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance!

How many groups are involved in one hydrogen bond?

Have you tried to write plausible structures?

Would you know how to check your conjectures?

Molecules of same compound...? So Inter molecular H-bonding. Also remember that there are intra molecular H-bonds possible.
