AI Thread Summary
Monitoring power consumption for computers can be achieved through various methods, including hardware solutions like dedicated sensors or devices such as the "Watts up?" meter. For software options, Windows XP users can utilize the built-in Performance logs found in the Control Panel to track system activity, potentially including power consumption metrics. External tools like an ammeter are also recommended for measuring electric power usage directly. Personal experiences shared indicate that idle power consumption can vary significantly between systems, with one user noting their main computer uses 120 watts and another 130 watts, highlighting the importance of understanding individual power usage for efficiency.

Does anyone know of any programs that let you monitor how much power your computer is using?

Laptop or desktop ?
I would think something like this might likely have to be a motherboard or power supply option (requires a sensor, which means a hardware item). It would cost money but a device similar to the "Watts up?" could work in a worst case senario;

Depends on how you define power.

Are you using Windows XP?

If so go to
Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Performance
From there you can create logs which track everything going on on your computer. There is probably a counter in there you can add to track power consumption.

If you mean electric power, the best/simplest way is externally with an ammeter.

power usage

Well I measured the wattage usage for my 2 computers and it interesting.
for example my main computer uses only 120 watts when the cpu is idle, just doing nothing with no power saving mode of any type.
My second computer uses 130 watts, but it's funny, it's just basicly like a 100 watt light bulb, anyways here is a link http://65.23.133.205/spec/ to what is exactly inside in my computer systems.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
