Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around testing the tactile user experience of various materials, focusing on their friction, texture, and tactility. Participants explore options for sourcing material samples and share specific material preferences for a project involving rounded corner rectangles.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks advice on how to test different materials for tactile qualities and where to obtain samples.
  • Another participant inquires about the specific types of materials being considered, such as textiles, plastics, woods, and rubber-like materials.
  • A participant suggests a preference for a plastic-rubbery substance similar to that of a MacBook Pro cover, emphasizing flexibility.
  • There is a mention of needing specific dimensions for the final product, described as a "hipster project."
  • A suggestion is made to visit a local Tap Plastics store for material browsing, specifically for those on the west coast of the USA.
  • A participant from the east coast shares their experience contacting Tap Plastics, indicating a misunderstanding regarding their project needs.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying preferences for materials and sourcing methods, with no consensus reached on the best approach or specific materials to use.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not resolved the specifics of material selection or testing methodology, and there are limitations in understanding the exact requirements for the project.

I'm having someone make something for me. I wanted to know the best way I could test a whole bunch of different materials with different friction, texture and tactility.
Where can I get a load of samples to test? I may have to reach out to different sources and purchase the different materials.

What kind of materials? Textiles? Plastics? Woods? Rubber-like materials? etc...

Plastic I think. Materials close to that of a macbook pro laptop cover, but maybe a little bit more flexible.
A Plastic-Rubbery type substance. 90% plastic 10% rubbery if that helps make anything more clear.

For my final product, I basically need rounded corner rectangles of this stuff, maybe 8 x 11 inches. Nothing too complex. It's a little hipster project.

Where are you located physically? If you are on the west coast of the USA, you could stop by your local Tap Plastics store to browse all of the materials ans textures that they have...

Fun store

I'm on the east coast. I contacted them. They told me to ask a librarian what they use for book covers. They didn't understand that I was trying to do something different.
