Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the verification of an equation related to buoyancy force, specifically exploring the relationship between the weight of an object in a fluid, the weight of the displaced fluid, and their respective densities. Participants are examining the mathematical formulation and seeking clarity on the correctness of the derived equation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant presents an equation relating the weight of an object in a fluid to the weight of the displaced fluid and their densities, suggesting a formula for calculating buoyancy force.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on whether the original poster is asking a specific question regarding their equation.
  • A third participant references Archimedes' principle, indicating a potential source for further understanding of the topic.
  • The original poster expresses a desire to verify their mathematical solution for buoyancy force, indicating uncertainty about their calculations.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not appear to reach a consensus, as participants are clarifying questions and seeking verification rather than agreeing on a specific interpretation or solution.

Contextual Notes

There are indications of missing assumptions and potential dependencies on definitions related to buoyancy and fluid density, which remain unresolved in the discussion.

Need verification for this equation for buoyancy force.

If
weight of an object in a fluid density of the object
_______________________= ________________
weight of the displaced fluid density of fluid

Than
weight of object x density of fluid
weight of displaced fluid= ___________________________
density of object

Weight of displaced fluid=w1=buoyancy forcew2d1
___________=b-force
d2

Welcome to the PF.

Usually thread starts are a bit easier to decode. Are you asking a question?

Yes. :smile::biggrin:

Well I solved it to get an equation for buoyancy force; I want to know if I did my math right. My parents were no help.
