Newton's laws of motion in 3+1 dimensions ?

Click For Summary
The discussion explores the implications of considering time as a fourth non-spatial dimension on gravitational movement, referencing Newton's laws of motion. It highlights the challenge of applying Newtonian physics in a four-dimensional context, particularly regarding the choice of coordinate systems for calculations. Newton-Cartan gravity is mentioned as a relevant framework, being dynamically equivalent to traditional Newtonian gravity. The conversation emphasizes the need for clarity in selecting appropriate coordinates for analysis. Ultimately, the relationship between time as a dimension and gravitational dynamics remains a complex topic.

If it were supposed that time were a 4th non-spatial dimension how would it influence the gravitational movement ?

The problem I have when trying to solve this invented problem is that Newtonian physics works in coordinates and that there are a lot of ways to find 4d 3+1 hyperbolic-spherical coordinates.

Which one should be used to start the calculations ?

Newton-Cartan gravity however is at the level of dynamics fully equivalent to Newtonian gravity as you know it (to answer the question in the OP).

For simple comparison, I think the same thought process can be followed as a block slides down a hill, - for block down hill, simple starting PE of mgh to final max KE 0.5mv^2 - comparing PE1 to max KE2 would result in finding the work friction did through the process. efficiency is just 100*KE2/PE1. If a mousetrap car travels along a flat surface, a starting PE of 0.5 k th^2 can be measured and maximum velocity of the car can also be measured. If energy efficiency is defined by...
