Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the logarithmic function log_a(x) and its definition under the conditions where the base a is constrained to be either between 0 and 1 or greater than 1. Participants are attempting to clarify the nature of the problem and what is meant by "solving" in this context.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Some participants question the phrasing of the original problem, noting that log_a(x) is an expression rather than an equation or inequality that can be solved. Others seek to understand the intent behind the request to describe how to solve it.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants expressing confusion about the problem's formulation. There is a suggestion to seek further clarification from the original poster regarding the specifics of the task.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty about the nature of the problem, as participants highlight that the request to "solve" an expression may not align with standard mathematical practices. The constraints on the base a are acknowledged but not fully explored.

Solve log_a(x) for what? Your question doesn't make sense to me.

It is basically a discussion question where I have to describe how to solve log_a x defined only for 0 < a < 1 and a > 1

Your question makes no sense. loga(x) is an expression. You can solve an equation or an inequality, but you can't solve an expression.

Here is a snip of it, but yes I'll go back and ask him about the problem.
