Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around finding non-latex alternatives for bands to create a t-shirt slingshot for a robotics team. Participants explore various materials and sources for suitable bands, focusing on practical applications in robotics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a need for non-latex bands for a t-shirt slingshot, indicating limited engineering knowledge.
  • Another participant suggests a specific type of tubing from a link, questioning its suitability for the project.
  • A different participant recommends exercise bands from sporting goods stores as a potential non-latex option, although they express doubt about the material composition.
  • Another suggestion involves using McMaster-Carr as a resource for various materials, recommending search terms like rubber, elastic, and bungee.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple suggestions for non-latex materials, but there is no consensus on which option is the best or most suitable for the slingshot project.

Contextual Notes

Some suggestions depend on the specific definitions of "non-latex" and the intended use of the bands, which may not be fully clarified in the discussion.

I am part of a robotics team and even though I know very little engineering I would like to create a t shirt slingshot without latex. Any ideas on bands I can use for that, that is not latex

Welcome to the PF.

Have a look at the exercise bands that you can get at sporting goods stores. I doubt they are made from latex.

McMaster-Carr, www.mcmaster.com, is an excellent source for miscellaneous stuff. A great place to browse if you are looking for something, but are not sure what's available. Go there, and try search terms rubber, elastic, and bungee.

They will sell to anybody, and do not have a minimum order.
