Numerical based on 3 parallel plates -Find the charge problem

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a numerical problem involving three parallel metal plates, where one plate is charged positively, another negatively, and the middle plate is neutral. Participants are tasked with determining the charge on the outer surface of the negatively charged plate.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants express confusion about the charge distribution on the plates and question the reasoning behind the charges on the outer surfaces. Some suggest using Gauss's theorem as a potential approach.

Discussion Status

The discussion has seen participants seeking clarification and guidance on how to approach the problem. There is a mix of attempts to engage with the problem, but a lack of consensus on the initial steps to take. Some participants have pointed out the importance of making an effort before seeking help.

Contextual Notes

Participants are reminded of the forum rules that emphasize the need to demonstrate effort in problem-solving. There is also a concern regarding the use of informal language in posts.

Plz help-Numerical based on 3 parallel plates -Find the charge problem

Q} Three identical metal plates with large surface areas are kept parallel to each other. The leftmost plate is given a charge Q and the rightmost plate a charge -Q and the middle one remains neutral.Find the charge appearing on the outer surface of rightmost plate.

Sir please help me with this numerical.
The answer is -Q/2 but i am not able to understand the concept..

Thankyou

nooo

the question says "the rightmost plate a charge -2Q "!

ya exactly
Can you please help me with the answer ?

certainly

what will the charges be on all the other surfaces?

why do you think the two outermost surfaces have those particular charges?

i don't know anything about all this...
you tell please...

well ... this question can be easily solved if you just use Gauss theorem.
