AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the differences between oral and rectal body temperature measurements. It highlights that oral temperatures are generally lower than rectal temperatures due to several factors. Ambient air, typically cooler than body temperature, can lower oral temperature as it moves through the mouth and evaporates saliva. Additionally, consuming cool liquids can temporarily decrease oral temperature. In contrast, the rectal cavity is insulated from ambient air and does not experience the cooling effects of drinking, leading to higher temperature readings.

Hello Guys How are you?? Today i was studying physiology Body temperature measurement and i saw in general and in normal conditions that the oral cavity temperature is lesser than rectal temperature but why the oral temperature is lesser than rectal temperature?? And what is the reason?

Ambient air temperature is usually lower than body temperature, and as air moves through the mouth it can evaporate saliva. Both factors lower oral temperature.
Drinking cool liquid really lowers temperature for a short period.

The anal cavity does not have ambient air moving through it. No drinking either.
