The ANSI/ESD S20.20 standard outlines the importance of "Personnel Ground wrist strap Connection (non-monitored)" for ensuring proper grounding to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to electronic components. Unlike monitored wrist straps that provide continuous feedback on grounding status, non-monitored straps require daily testing to confirm functionality. Failure to test these straps increases the risk of losing grounding, potentially leading to ESD incidents that can damage sensitive devices. Regular checks are essential for maintaining a safe working environment in electronics assembly and repair. Proper adherence to these guidelines is crucial for preventing costly ESD-related failures.

In ANSI/ ESD S20.20 standard, do you know what "Personnel Ground wrist strap Connection (non- monitored)" test for?

Basically monitored wrist straps tell you if you're properly grounded so as not to zap an electronic component when you touch it.

Non-monitored straps should be tested once a day to verify that they are properly grounding you which means you run the risk oflosing ground at some point and zapping a chip ruining that device you're putting together or repairing.

I need to anneal 5052 aluminum for a home project. Google has given me mixed results on how to do this. Short version is that I'm doing some heavy forming on a piece of 5052-H32 and I'm running into issues with it work hardening. I've tried the Sharpie trick with a propane torch. But I'm not sure this is doing anything. I'm also seeing conflicting opinions whether to quench or air cool. So I'm looking for some expert opinions. (Oven heating is not an option due to size.) Thanks. edit: The...
