AI Thread Summary
The data center in Tampa Bay is expected to face a direct hit from hurricane Milton, raising concerns about potential service disruptions. Previous storms, like hurricane Helene, were managed without significant damage, but the forecasted storm surge for Milton is higher. There is some discussion about unconventional methods, such as pre-flooding the data center, to mitigate storm surge impacts. Observations indicate that hurricane Milton's wind field may have drawn water away from Tampa Bay, affecting areas further south. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Our data center is in Tampa Bay, which is atm forecasted for a direct hit from hurricane Milton so there is a possibility for service disruption. I'll update if I learn anything new.

Thanks Greg. Hope they batten down the hatches well.

I read somewhere that if you pre-flood the data center before the hurricane hits, then you don't have to worry about the storm surge knocking it out!

I understand that hurricane Milton was far enough south of Tampa Bay that the wind field actually drew water from Tampa Bay. It was not good for those further south, particularly south of Sarasota, FL, in the SE quadrant of the hurricane.
