SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on recommendations for books and resources related to the Non-linear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. Key suggestions include "Numerical Methods for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Nonzero Far-field Conditions" and "Mathematical Modeling in Continuum Mechanics," which contains a chapter on NLS. Additional resources include the paper "THE DISCRETE NONLINEAR SCHRÖDINGER EQUATION - 20 YEARS ON" and the course "Solitons and Nonlinear Waves." The user seeks introductory materials due to a lack of background in numerical methods and quantum mechanics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of differential equations
  • Familiarity with numerical methods
  • Introductory knowledge of quantum mechanics
  • Access to academic resources and research papers
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Numerical Methods for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Nonzero Far-field Conditions"
  • Explore "Mathematical Modeling in Continuum Mechanics" for insights on NLS
  • Read "THE DISCRETE NONLINEAR SCHRÖDINGER EQUATION - 20 YEARS ON" for historical context
  • Enroll in the "Solitons and Nonlinear Waves" course for practical applications
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students and researchers in applied mathematics, physicists interested in quantum mechanics, and anyone seeking to understand the numerical approaches to the Non-linear Schrödinger equation.

Hi all.
Could you please recommend some nice books on numerical approach to NLS or introduction to NLS in general?
I don't have a strong background in numerical methods nor any prior knowldege in NLS or quantum mechanics. So, perhaps an introductory book would be suitable at this stage.
Thanks.

By NLS, does one mean Non-linear Schrödinger equation, as opposed to Non-Linear Systems? If so, then these might be of interest.

thanks.
but is there any more introductory level books? I am completely new to this field.
