Pneumatic Actuator - horizontally mounted?

AI Thread Summary
Connecting a pneumatic actuator directly to a 150 kg metal plate mounted horizontally raises concerns about the downward force affecting its operation when fully extended. The actuator has a maximum side load tolerance that must be considered to ensure proper functionality. Increasing the bore size of the actuator may not resolve issues if the plate exceeds the actuator's load limits. It is crucial to understand the specific maximum side tolerance of the actuator to avoid operational failures. Overall, careful assessment of load capacities is essential for effective actuator performance.

If a pneumatic actuator is connected directly to a roughly 150 kg metal plate... and this whole system is mounted horizontally... then would the downward force of the plate be harmful to the normal operation when fully extended? Or is it simply a matter of increasing the bore of the actuator?

An actuator would have a maximum side load tolerance.

Ideally the Actuator would have a specific maximum side tolerance. I'm not sure of what the ranges are like. So you should be fine. And in case the plate you are using is going beyond the applicable limit, i doubt that a simple increase in the diameter of the bore will change things.
