I Praseodymium, other Elements, and their Magnetic Properties vs. radioactivity

Click For Summary
The discussion centers on whether the magnetic properties of Praseodymium and similar elements are affected by their radioactivity. It explores the potential impact of decay processes, particularly beta decay, on the electronic structure and magnetic characteristics of these elements. The conversation also considers whether variations in half-life or damage to crystal structures from external irradiation play a role in altering magnetic properties. Praseodymium has only one notable radioactive isotope, which has a half-life of approximately 13.6 days, while others decay much more quickly. Overall, the relationship between radioactivity and magnetic properties remains a complex topic needing further exploration.

Question: Does the magnetic properties of an element, like Praseodymium, vary with radioactivity?

That is, in general, does radioactivity (perhaps beta decay or alpha decay) subtly or otherwise alter the electronic structure enough to alter magnetic properties? The case for beta decay may be the more intetesting...

A relative asked me about the following article: Experimental observation of a time rondeau crystal https://www.nature.com/articles/s41567-025-03028-y I pointed my relative to following article: Scientists Discovered a Time Crystal That Reveals a New Way to Order Time https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/scientists-discovered-time-crystal-reveals-180055389.html This area is outside of my regular experience. I'm interested in radiation effects in polycrystalline material, i.e., grain...
