    Data install Os
AI Thread Summary
To unlock a locked laptop and recover data, removing the hard disk and connecting it to another device as an external drive is a common approach. This can be done using a hard disk kit that allows USB connection. However, caution is advised as some operating systems may encrypt the hard disk, complicating data extraction without the proper encryption keys. Knoppix is suggested as a tool to access drives with read issues. It's important to note that hard disk encryption is optional and not enabled by default on Windows 10. If there are no disk errors, creating a backup disk image before proceeding is recommended. Additionally, tools like Cain & Abel may be considered for further assistance in unlocking the laptop.

This is a locked laptop,in order for it to work again,i need to install a new OS , i am going to remove the hard disk of the computer and extract data on other devices. My friend told me that this is ok, but I am worried that the data saved on the hard disk of the computer will be lost.
Maybe there is a safer and easier method.

Often people will remove a hard disk and make it an external drive using a kit. From there, you can use USB to connect it to your newer computer and extract files as needed.

However, be aware that some OSes encrypt hard disks making it difficult to impossible to extract your files without the encryption methodology and key.

Knoppix is often used to access drives that have some read issue so you could check that out.

Hard disk encryption is optional and up to the user to decide, and the OS doesn't do it by default. At least that's how it is on Windows 10 (and other versions), don't know about other OS's.

If it is not some disk error then you can try making a backup disk image first.
Worst case this will be the same size as the disk itself so better do this directly, by attaching the disk as real disk and not through any USB...

I went on a 5-day business trip, when i got home yesterday, i turned on my computer, but it was still locked,it is Windows 10,and this locked laptop hasn't worked for a week, and my colleague recommended Cain & Abel, which is free.Maybe i should try.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
