SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the probabilities of achieving a flush and a straight in Texas Hold'em poker when dealt an Ace and Ten of hearts. The proposed formula for the flush probability is (11 choose 3)/(50 choose 3), while the straight probability is suggested as (12 choose 3)/(50 choose 3). These calculations are essential for understanding hand probabilities in poker strategy.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of combinatorial mathematics, specifically "n choose k" notation.
  • Familiarity with Texas Hold'em poker rules and hand rankings.
  • Basic probability theory concepts.
  • Knowledge of card deck composition and remaining cards after initial dealing.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research combinatorial probability in card games.
  • Learn about Texas Hold'em hand probabilities and their implications for gameplay.
  • Study advanced poker strategies involving probability calculations.
  • Explore tools for simulating poker hands and calculating odds, such as PokerStove or Equilab.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for poker players, game theorists, and anyone interested in enhancing their understanding of probability in card games, particularly in Texas Hold'em strategy.

If I am dealt an ace and ten of hearts, what is the probability I will get a flush? And what is the probability I get a straight?

I want to say the flush is:
(11 choose 3)/(50 choose 3)

And for the straight:
(12 choose 3)/(50 choose 3)

I am not sure. Any ideas?

Hi asept!

Please don't multiple-post.

And you'd get more answers if you told us what a straight and a flush are.

(and try using the X2 and X2 tags just above the Reply box )
