AI Thread Summary
A user is seeking a new problem book for General Relativity (GR) due to difficulties with "Problem Book In Relativity and Gravitation" by Alan P. Lightman, citing issues with text quality and vague explanations. They find the problems challenging, only managing to solve about half of them, and express a preference for easier problems, particularly in Quantum Field Theory (QFT). Suggestions from other forum members include a book by Tai-Peng Tsai on cosmology and GR, which has solutions to some exercises, and a text by Schutz that comes with a student solutions manual. Another recommended resource is a GR book designed to integrate problems throughout each chapter, which balances a math-heavy approach with a more physics-focused perspective.

Hello,. I am looking for another problem book for GR. I have used Problem Book In Relativity and Gravitation by Alan P. Lightman, et al.

But first the copy I get is not in a good quality. Some texts are vague. Also, it seems too difficult for me. I only can solve about half of the problems in every chapter. Oh, my poor hair. Compared to them, problems in QFT are so delightful.

Therefore, I am looking for another problem book publichsed recently and not too difficult.

Thanks!

Dont take it too serious... Your hair is more important than any exercise 🤪 there's a book by tai peng on cosmology and GR with solutions to some of its exercises in it. Also the book by schutz has students' solution manual.

Thanks! But I could not google the book by tai peng. I am not sure whether you mean Tai-Peng Tsai or others?

Ta-Pei Cheng.
All the best!

The book is fascinating. If your education includes a typical math degree curriculum, with Lebesgue integration, functional analysis, etc, it teaches QFT with only a passing acquaintance of ordinary QM you would get at HS. However, I would read Lenny Susskind's book on QM first. Purchased a copy straight away, but it will not arrive until the end of December; however, Scribd has a PDF I am now studying. The first part introduces distribution theory (and other related concepts), which...
I've gone through the Standard turbulence textbooks such as Pope's Turbulent Flows and Wilcox' Turbulent modelling for CFD which mostly Covers RANS and the closure models. I want to jump more into DNS but most of the work i've been able to come across is too "practical" and not much explanation of the theory behind it. I wonder if there is a book that takes a theoretical approach to Turbulence starting from the full Navier Stokes Equations and developing from there, instead of jumping from...
