SUMMARY

Gold plated protoboards are designed to prevent oxidation and corrosion on contacts, ensuring reliable connections prior to soldering. Solder can bond effectively with gold plating, making these protoboards suitable for electronic projects. This practice is standard in the electronics industry, confirming the utility of gold plating in enhancing the longevity and performance of protoboards.

I saw some protoboards at fry that say "gold plated" on them. Can these contacts be soldered to? It doesn't seem like solder would be able to bond with gold plating, but if not, what good is the protoboard?
