Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around drawing ray diagrams for a pencil in relation to converging and diverging lenses, specifically focusing on the positions behind and in front of the focal points. Participants are tasked with describing the resulting images based on these diagrams.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Some participants inquire about the original poster's attempts to engage with the problem, while others suggest considering the behavior of light in relation to the lenses. There is a focus on the need to visualize the diagrams before adding the pencil.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants offering guidance on how to approach the drawing of the diagrams. There is an emphasis on understanding the principles behind ray diagrams, but no consensus has been reached on specific methods or interpretations.

Contextual Notes

Participants note the challenge of visualizing the diagrams and the original poster's uncertainty about how to proceed with the drawing task.

Homework Statement

Draw the ray diagrams for a pencil sitting on the principal axis behind and in front of the focal
point of a converging lens. Describe the image. Do the same for a pencil sitting on the parallel
axis behind and in front of the focal point of a diverging lens.

Have you attempted to do anything? What are you asking? Just do what the problem says! Draw the picture!

i don't know how to draw the picture

Think about what the light will do. There is not much else I can do to explain. Draw the lenses and the ray diagrams without the pencil there, then add a pencil. As for ray diagrams, google it and view some of the images that pop up.

Better yet, just think about it first. I mean, you should get an idea of what will happen.
