Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the SkySurfer Aircraft, a personal multipropeller helicopter designed by Hunter Kowald. Participants express concerns regarding its safety features and potential risks associated with its operation, particularly in relation to the exposed propellers and the consequences of crashes at various altitudes.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Hunter Kowald designed and built the SkySurfer Aircraft, which has drawn attention for its innovative design.
  • Some participants express skepticism about the safety of the aircraft, suggesting it appears dangerous.
  • Concerns are raised regarding the lack of protective cages around the propellers, which could lead to serious injuries in the event of a crash.
  • One participant questions the safety of operating the aircraft at heights above 50 feet, comparing it to surfing where the first crash could be fatal, and suggests keeping it under 20 feet and over water for safety.
  • A reference is made to a 1950s variant of a flying platform, indicating interest in historical designs related to personal flight.
  • Another participant mentions a related drone car video that was previously shared on the forum, indicating ongoing interest in innovative flying vehicles.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally express concerns about the safety of the SkySurfer Aircraft, but there is no consensus on specific safety measures or the viability of the design itself. Multiple competing views regarding its safety and operational risks remain present.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not reached a conclusion regarding the safety features of the SkySurfer Aircraft, and discussions about historical variants and related technologies are ongoing.

Oh that doesn't look dangerous at all...

Oh yikes! Hopefully the next one they build has cages around the props. It's still pretty dangerous, but at least you won't get sliced up when you fall...

That was my thought about the props as well. And, what happens 50 feet off the ground if you tip over. It's like surfing where the first crash gets you killed. If I tried it, I would at least keep it under 20 feet and over water so that there was some chance of survival.

There is a drone car video floating around on PF also. I think that it was posted a little over a year ago.
