Many suppliers of solar systems give power ratings in terms of kW. However, how should I size the system for loads whose PF is not unity?

I am specifically concerned about the solar panels. Should the panels' kW rating be matched with the load's kVA rating?

Thank you

Photo-voltaic generators produce Direct Current. The attached inverters convert the DC to Alternating Current, one component of which is reactive current.

PV generators output cannot be regulated, being dependent on insolation, so they must supply an accumulator which rating must be matched to the inverters which must be capable of carrying your reactive load.

Thanks, Doug Huffman. But how would we size the solar panels?
