I think it can be generalized like this (using the semicolon notation):
curl of covector A=
[tex]A_{i;j}-A_{j;i}[/tex]
wich only commutes in the R^3 case and for a gradient field F:
[tex]F_{i;j}=\partial_jF_i-\Gamma^k_{ij}F_k[/tex]
