Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around methods and chemicals for solidifying powders, particularly in the context of agglomerating them into solid forms. Participants explore various approaches, including chemical reactions and physical processes.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks to understand how to solidify a powder, implying a need for specific chemicals.
  • Another participant clarifies that the question likely pertains to agglomerating powders into solid objects and suggests various methods, including adding reagents that react with the powder, using solvents or plasticizers, and sintering.
  • A participant inquires about solidifying fine sugar powder and asks for specific chemicals that could achieve this.
  • Another participant questions the intent behind wanting to solidify powders, suggesting a need for context.
  • A participant asks about the chemicals used in the production of medicinal pills from powders.
  • One response mentions stearic acid as a potential binder and suggests looking up terms related to binders and pills for more information.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express various methods and chemicals without reaching a consensus on a single approach or chemical for solidifying powders. Multiple competing views and methods remain present in the discussion.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the specific conditions or assumptions regarding the types of powders or the desired properties of the solidified product.

Hello, how could I make a powder became solid ? Do I need some chemical that can solidify it ?

thank you

While technically a powder is a solid, I'm sure you are asking about how to agglomerate a powder into a solid object. This can be done in a variety of ways. Trivially, you could add a reagent that reacted with the powder to produce another solid as is the case for adding water to portland cement powder. Or you could add a solvent/plasticizer to a powdered resin or latex and allow them to form a solid object as is done with latex paints. You could also sinter the powder into a solid object as is done with ceramics and powdered metals.

having for example sugar in fine powder what chemical would you add to solidify it ?

why did you want to glue mather together?

what chemical do they use to make med pills out of powder ?

Stearic acid. You should look up the terms 'binder' and 'pill' for a more complete list.
