Homework Statement

A solid cylinder with a radius of 5.0 cm and a length of 10. cm is cut in half lengthwise. What is the surface area of one of the two resulting objects?

Homework Equations

SA = 2(pi)(r2) + L(pi)(r2)

The Attempt at a Solution

Is that the correct formula? If it is I am getting 863 in^3 as an answer :(

the surface area of half the solid cylinder will be the sum of contributions from:
2 x end semi-cricles
rectangle of cut surface
rectangle of one half of cylinder "unrolled"

also why change from cm to in?
