I want a closed loop MATLAB simulation for a case study in power grid control: I'm planning to regulate the terminal voltage of a synchronous generator on overloading, by measuring the terminal voltage instantaneously, giving it to a rectifier and feeding the DC signal to the exciter (instead of giving an input signal from a step input) appropriately .So that I can vary terminal voltage by controlling field excitation. Is this right thought/reasonable or correct?

or should I consider speed control using the input supplied..

It will be great if you could comment on this

Well yes. Of course you can. The exciter is controlled by a voltage regulator. The regulator compares measured terminal voltage to the set point.

Power system stabilizers are devices that manipulate the voltage set point for the purpose of influencing grid dynamics.
