This is the most advanced and lifelike robot that I've ever seen

AI Thread Summary
The humanoid robot discussed is impressively lifelike, with facial movements and expressions that appear almost real. Initial impressions suggest it could be CGI, but it is confirmed to be a physical robot. There is debate over whether its realism comes from motion capture technology, which could diminish its uniqueness compared to CGI. Despite this, the robot's appearance and capabilities are still regarded as impressive. The conversation highlights the blurred lines between advanced robotics and digital animation.

At first, I thought that this humanoid robot was just really good CGI, but it's actually real.

The facial movements and expressions are eerily realistic and lifelike.

Really good CGI is typically motion-captured, so I'm not sure how to judge this. If it's just playing-back motion capture, then it isn't much different from really good CGI. Still looks cool though.

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
