SUMMARY

The discussion centers on troubleshooting issues with Wolfram Alpha when solving a specific second-order linear ordinary differential equation (ODE). The equation in question is presented as y'' + 6y' + 8y = 16t^2. Participants clarify the notation, confirming that y'' represents the second derivative of y, and discuss potential misunderstandings regarding the equation's structure. The original poster concludes that there may be an error in their homework list and plans to consult their teacher for clarification.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of second-order linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
  • Familiarity with Wolfram Alpha for solving mathematical equations
  • Knowledge of differential notation, including derivatives (y', y'')
  • Basic algebraic manipulation skills
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and solutions of second-order linear ODEs
  • Learn how to use Wolfram Alpha effectively for solving differential equations
  • Study the notation and terminology used in calculus, specifically regarding derivatives
  • Explore common mistakes in formulating differential equations and how to avoid them
USEFUL FOR

Students studying calculus, particularly those focusing on differential equations, educators teaching ODEs, and anyone seeking to improve their problem-solving skills using Wolfram Alpha.

differential equation
I have the problem with checking solution in calculators. For example wolfram doesn't give result of this equation. Have you any idea what is going on? Maybe should I simplyfy something. The equation is placed in photo.

Is y'' really multiplying y'?

Yes, I have it on my homework list.

Surely that would have been written as 6y''y' not y'' \times 6y'?

Are the other problems on your homework list second order linear ODEs?

Are you sure it isn't y'' + 6y' + 8y = 16t^2?

I am sure it is like I have written. Perhaps it is mistake in my homework list, so I need to contact with my teacher. Thanks for help.
