Understanding the Benefits of Reflexed Trailing Edge for Aerofoil Stability

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the advantages of reflexed trailing edges in aerofoils, particularly in relation to their impact on stability and the movement of the center of pressure with varying angles of attack. The context includes theoretical explanations and practical applications relevant to aeronautical engineering.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the specific advantages of reflexed trailing edges and how they contribute to aerofoil stability, mentioning pressure distribution as a key aspect.
  • Another participant suggests that the original question may be homework-related and encourages the use of online resources for information.
  • A participant clarifies their background in aeronautical engineering and expresses a desire to strengthen their understanding of how reflexed and convexed lower surfaces affect the center of pressure and stability.
  • There are repeated requests for assistance and resources to better understand the topic, indicating a need for foundational knowledge rather than merely seeking answers to homework questions.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the specifics of the advantages of reflexed trailing edges, and the discussion includes varying perspectives on the nature of the inquiry, with some viewing it as homework-related while others seek deeper understanding.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations in the discussion regarding the depth of technical details provided, particularly concerning pressure distribution and its implications for stability, which remain unexplored.

Who May Find This Useful

What is the advantage of having reflexed trailing edge. How does it improve the stability of the aerofoil. Reflexed wing are generally used in tailess planes. Can anyone explain to me...with proper pressure distribution details.

What i know about it is... Reflexed trailing edge and convexed lower surface are the two modifications on an aerofoil to restrict the movement of Center of pressure with AOA, and increase the stability

Sounds like a homework question.

Have you tried Google to discover their uses and get the details?

I found some rather interesting articles on the subject.

Hi james,
This is not my home work question. I am an aeronautical engineering, i am appearing for my exams for FTE( Flight Test Engineer) this feb. I just wanted my basics to be strong.

If possible.. help me in explaining how reflexed and convexed lower surface restrict the movement of Center of pressure with angle of attack, there by increase stability.

It is still schoolwork, so it qualifies for the Homework Help forums. Please post your schoolwork questions here, in the HH forums.

Can anyone hlep me on this question
Is tat TOOOO SILLY..

can i have the address of the web page which answers my question. It will be really of a great help

What web pages have you been reading so far to try to learn more about the questions?

Google produces some very good results on the subject.

Has the op tried that yet?
