Unsolved Mystery - What Caused the Broken Window?

Click For Summary
A user reported a mysterious loud sound in their home, leading to the discovery of broken glass in a double-pane window. The internal pane was shattered while the outer pane remained intact. The window, installed in 2002, had survived nearly nine years without issue, and there were no apparent causes such as temperature extremes or external disturbances. The discussion explored various theories, including the possibility of wood expansion and contraction affecting the glass, spontaneous breakage, or even humorous suggestions involving ghosts or animals. The user noted that they had not used a telescope, which had been a gift for their child, in years, and they considered replacing the windows with plastic ones due to moisture issues. The conversation also touched on the differences between tempered and annealed glass, with participants sharing insights about building codes and glass properties. Overall, the thread combined practical advice with lighthearted speculation about supernatural causes.

Also, assuming it is annealed, couldn't other defects still cause the annealing process to fail; resulting in unwanted internal stresses?

That's a good question. I'm not sure, but I've never had a piece of glass that was stamped tempered turn out to be annealed. I think that would be a major liability for the manufacturer. My dad might know, he was a glazer for approximately 35 years. I'll ask him if I remember the next time I talk to him.

Just to be safe, pour baking flour all over the floor and paint big red Xs all over the walls. You might also want to cover the floor with tacs and potato chips and syrup.

Ghosts hate that stuff.

On the other hand, it sounds like fun for small animals, or some kind of fetish-wrestling.

I plan to interrogate the telescope shining a light down the tube.

Personally I have experienced a lot with ghost activity. If who ever it is wants your attention fear not they will be back with more calamity. You will just have to wait and see. Have you had a relative die recently? Perhaps one you were close too? There are many reasons activity can start and stop abrubtly. Is your house a new house or does it have history? Research may be in order. But if it is ghost activity you should deal with it. Happy hunting...
