Updates Annoy Me: How to Consolidate Program Update Proposals

AI Thread Summary
Many users express frustration with software programs, particularly Adobe Acrobat, that prompt for updates upon startup, disrupting their workflow. There is a consensus that update notifications should be centralized and managed separately from the main application usage to avoid interruptions. Additionally, issues with persistent prompts from other software, such as HP printer programs, are highlighted, with users needing to manually close processes during shutdown. Some users suggest disabling updates entirely but recommend periodically enabling them to ensure software remains current. Concerns are also raised about free software that requires registration for continued use, with advice against paying for unnecessary registrations.

I hate how some programs, especially Adobe Acrobat, propose updates when you start them up. I do not care about updates when I start up Acrobat. I just care about looking at the document I want to look at. Update proposals for all programs need to be amalgamated into a single location and run when I'm _not_ trying to do anything else, such as open Acrobat.

You should turn all updates off, I also agree they are quite annoying, just be sure to turn them on from time to time to get the latest version and the installations of the patch..

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
