Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the current state of drought conditions in the United States, exploring whether certain regions are still affected and the implications of these conditions. Participants reference various states, personal experiences, and external sources to illustrate the situation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants note that parts of the US, particularly Texas and California, are still experiencing drought conditions, with Texas reportedly having 38% of the state affected.
  • Others mention that while some areas are suffering from drought, other regions, such as parts of the eastern US, are experiencing record flooding.
  • One participant highlights that the drought has not personally affected them, suggesting a disconnect between individual experiences and broader environmental issues.
  • There is a reference to the impact of El Niño, with some suggesting it may help alleviate California's drought in the near future.
  • Participants share links to external sources for further information on drought conditions and related topics.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a mix of views, with some agreeing that drought conditions persist in certain areas while others emphasize the contrasting flooding in different regions. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the overall impact and future expectations of drought across the country.

Contextual Notes

There are references to varying personal experiences with drought, indicating that individual impacts may differ significantly from broader regional conditions. Some claims rely on external sources that may have their own limitations or assumptions.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in environmental science, climate change, and regional weather patterns may find this discussion relevant, particularly those looking to understand the complexities of drought and its effects across different areas of the US.

Are parts of the US still suffering drought? there is not much on the news about it.

Yes, Texas went back into drought for 38% of the state whereas a few months ago the rain had erased the previous several years of drought the 100+ degree temps brought it back. I think California is also suffering with many farms using up precious ground water to irrigate.

9 States still in severe drought.

It seems odd how it is just parts of some states.

Well, I can tell you for sure that South Carolina isn't at the moment

EDIT: my apologies to the people of SC, who probably do NOT think that's funny.

This is Mt. Hood. It's been like this since the start of summer.

Personally the CA drought hasn't affected me one bit. No one seems to be doing anything different in the way they use water.

Exactly. That's one of the main reasons why CA is HAVING a drought.

Below is a picture I took of Yosemite falls two weeks ago. Some imagination required.

America is big, what is it 4 time zones, i guess it is not unusual to have drought in one part and floods in another.

Beautiful picture Russ, it seems with all the rivers drying up and the snow caps melting parts of America have a near time grim future.
