Vertical movement of heating plate

I wish to give a vertical movement to a heating plate. How can I do it?

Attach the heating plate to a motor, what kind of motion do yuo want to give to the plate? E.g. slow, rapid, step-by-step, continuously etc. you also need to take into account the mass of the whole assembly.
