AI Thread Summary
A 4.0μC charge is located at the origin of an xy coordinate system, and the task is to find the potential difference at the points x=4.0m and y=2.0m. The formula used for calculating voltage is V = k X q/r, resulting in an absolute voltage of 9.0 x 10^3. To determine the potential difference, the potentials at both points must be calculated and then subtracted. The order of subtraction is clarified as "A - B" when finding the difference between two points. Understanding the signs of the voltages is essential for accurately determining the potential difference.

Homework Statement

A 4.0μC charge is situated at the origin of an xy coordinate system. What is the potential difference between the points x=4.0m and y=2.0m because of this charge?

Homework Equations

V = k X q/r

The Attempt at a Solution

So i got the absolute value of the voltage to be 9.0 X 103. Howver how do you know if the voltage is negative or positive?

The question asks for the potential difference, so find the potential at 4.0m and at 2.0m and then take the difference.

how do i know which voltage comes first in the difference?

If asked the difference between A and B, I'd write "A - B".

thank you so much!

Thread 'Voltmeter readings for this circuit with switches'
TL;DR Summary: I would like to know the voltmeter readings on the two resistors separately in the picture in the following cases , When one of the keys is closed When both of them are opened (Knowing that the battery has negligible internal resistance) My thoughts for the first case , one of them must be 12 volt while the other is 0 The second case we'll I think both voltmeter readings should be 12 volt since they are both parallel to the battery and they involve the key within what the...
Thread 'Correct statement about a reservoir with an outlet pipe'
The answer to this question is statements (ii) and (iv) are correct. (i) This is FALSE because the speed of water in the tap is greater than speed at the water surface (ii) I don't even understand this statement. What does the "seal" part have to do with water flowing out? Won't the water still flow out through the tap until the tank is empty whether the reservoir is sealed or not? (iii) In my opinion, this statement would be correct. Increasing the gravitational potential energy of the...
