I grabbed this one a long time ago. I think it was Hurkyl...

But I simply refuse to consider myself of the same species as those disgusting hairless hominids!

Now give me that banana!

One of my all time favorites, from Artman.
"'I want to sit with the rich dummies.' Quote from my brother following a dinner discussion on the nature of light".

That was by far Val Kilmer's (and kurt russell's, and anyone else who was in there) best movie. It was just great. And Kilmer's Doc Holiday--Godly. Love it. Just love it.

what kind of cleaner does one use on their "personal mental toilet"?

Clean it? If nobody else goes potty there, what makes you think it would need cleaning? :-p

not to toot my own horn, but since nobody else is, one of my favorite lines was from a long long time ago.
someone: the Pentagon isn't square
me: I know the pentagon isn't square, it's octagonal.

I'd be careful about tooting your own horn on a public forum, dude.

One of the funniest things I can recall is:

I'm not joking at all about this, it is very sad, but I would imagine my friends as [a deck of playing] cards.

tribdog said:
Thanks for pointing out that this is not one of your jokes. It's hard to tell with you sometimes. That's why I make my jokes funny, it distinguishes them from normal conversation. You should try it sometimes...

... And as if that wasn't enough...

tribdog said:
...As far as your friends being cards, that's how I always pictured you. Square and flat and can't tell your top from your bottom.

Good one!

A special sanitary cocktail: 1 part logic, 1 part evidence, and 1 part common sense.

And if one doesn't see to one's personal mental toilet, then a Mentor has to clean it.

A recent comment to Selfadjoint in a philosophy thread:

"It seems some of the other patrons in here take you seriously, but seriously I thought you were a high school kid copying and pasting things in here. You may have read some books in your life and you seem like you have a decent vocabulary but you are rather odd."

Apart from most of Russ Watters' contributions, Dave's Tragic Life - Tell us what you know was one of the most funny and disturbing things I've seen on PF in a while. Any chance of a revival?

It's been added to the classics sticky. Hopefully the story will continue, they can't leave us hanging this way! :frown:

In case anyone didn't realize who I was poking fun at, it was the poster (i.e., not selfAdjoint) who may have slightly underestimated SA's intellectual ability. :-p

I remember one guy who was complaining that the people at PF are blinded by their intelligence.

Should one hope to see the light through stupidity?

Hmm, how do you spell "unconvincing"? or maybe the word I'm looking for rhymes with "wishing"?

I'm not like that. I was being serious. The only people who posted in that thread were the 3 people writing the story. I was suprised that it got put into the classics thread.
I'm guessing that fishing rhymes with wishing. I think I'm a bit more straightforward than that.

I think she's referring to The Forgotten. In Eternal Sunshine . . ., the persons are only erased from the memory of one other person.

Good to hear it trib! I'll try to emulate the archetypical Aussie in future, laconic and blunt (or was that the archetypical Swede?). o:)

Well, at 273 views and 30 posts, it's about average for a thread (views per post that is), so it's pretty unlikely that the only ones who've been reading it are the three posting to it!

Honestly now, what's your own opinion of that thread? On a par with the others in classics? with your other great contributions?

I wasn't sure of your motives 100% and that's why I used a [very lightly] modified version of your opener. The other part I truly thought funny. :approve:

Well, it just got dropped, and only 3 of us were posting in it, so I thought we were the only 3 who found it amusing. I'm also surprised others were enjoying it enough to make it a classic thread, especially with a cliff-hanger ending!

no I don't think it is as good as some of the classics. although I really did laugh when the string got caught on the sofa. I don't think most of my posts deserve classic status. I think the "lifetime guarantee" Cosco casket thread is hilarious and I had no part in it. I can't tell what tone of voice you are using, and get the feeling that you think I am superconcieted. If I say something about how great I am I assume everyone knows I'm trying to be funny and that I'm not really like that, but maybe everyone doesn't know that.
You ever read Mad Magazine? remember those little pictures in the margins? that's what I think most of my posts are. funny little snips that may or may not have anything to do with current topics.
When I heard someone say they wanted the Dave thread to continue I sat down and wrote about five pages worth of story which I will never post to that thread because it doesn't strike me as being "classic" worthy

POST THEM!

Hey, you gurus got paid a HUGE amount of cash when you received your awards, so you'd better start producing!

(or did us mentors decide to divide the guru cash prize fund among ourselves  note to self, check with the bank to see if I recently received a large deposit)

It is still around, but I didn't want to embarrass the poster. When someone first gets here at PF often they don't know who knows what, or what "Supermentor" means. I just thought it funny that he was thinking selfAdjoint might be a crackpot.
