SUMMARY

The Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) achieves combustion chamber temperatures of 3,300 °C (6,000 °F). This high temperature is critical for the efficient performance of the rocket motor. The exhaust gas temperatures as the gases pass through the nozzle are also significant, although specific values were not provided in the discussion. The fuel mixture utilized in the SSME is rich in hydrogen (H2), which contributes to these extreme temperatures.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of rocket propulsion principles
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics related to combustion processes
  • Familiarity with the SSME specifications and design
  • Basic grasp of hydrogen fuel properties
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the thermal dynamics of rocket nozzles
  • Explore the combustion processes in hydrogen-rich fuel mixtures
  • Study the engineering design of the SSME
  • Investigate the performance metrics of rocket motors under extreme temperatures
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, rocket propulsion specialists, and students studying rocket technology will benefit from this discussion.

I was wondering if anyone here happens to know the temperatures related to the SSME's ( or any rocket motor like it ) exhaust just as it passes through the nozzle?

Actually, temperatures in the combustion chamber, nozzle, etc would be beneficial to know as well.

Thanks again.
