SUMMARY

The notation t(4;11)(p16;p15) indicates a translocation between chromosome 4 and chromosome 11, specifically involving the short arms (p) of these chromosomes. The numbers 16 and 15 refer to the specific bands on the p arms where the translocation occurs. This notation is crucial for genetic diagnosis and understanding chromosomal abnormalities. For further details, refer to the locus nomenclature guidelines provided in genetic literature.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of chromosomal structure and terminology
  • Familiarity with genetic translocations
  • Knowledge of cytogenetic banding techniques
  • Basic grasp of genetic nomenclature
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the implications of chromosomal translocations in genetic disorders
  • Learn about cytogenetic techniques for identifying chromosome bands
  • Explore the significance of specific chromosomal abnormalities in cancer genetics
  • Study the guidelines for genetic nomenclature in cytogenetics
USEFUL FOR

Geneticists, cytogeneticists, medical professionals involved in genetic diagnosis, and students studying genetics will benefit from this discussion.

t(4;11)(p16;p15)

Hi, what would the above mean in terms of chromosome diagnosis? I understand a translocation has occurred between chromosomes 4 and 11, but not what (p16;p15) means.

Thanks.
