SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating net displacement involving multiple directions and distances using vector analysis. Participants explain how to break down movements into vertical and horizontal components, specifically using the example of 130m north, 50m east, and 40m south. The net displacement is calculated using the Pythagorean theorem, resulting in a displacement of approximately 102.9 units at an angle of 60.9 degrees from the horizontal. The conversation emphasizes the importance of drawing diagrams and using trigonometric functions to find angles related to displacement.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vector components and their representation
  • Familiarity with the Pythagorean theorem
  • Basic knowledge of trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent)
  • Ability to interpret and create diagrams for vector problems
NEXT STEPS
  • Learn how to apply the Pythagorean theorem in two-dimensional vector problems
  • Study trigonometric functions and their applications in calculating angles
  • Explore vector addition and subtraction in physics
  • Practice solving real-world problems involving displacement and direction
USEFUL FOR

Students in physics or mathematics, educators teaching vector analysis, and anyone interested in understanding displacement calculations in multiple dimensions.

can you tell me if i did this right...so i have this problem I am doing where i have to travel 32miles in than 45mins. what's the slowest i can drive in order to be at 32miles in 45 mins... so i divided my 45minutes by 60minutes to determine the hour value...which is
.75...and then simply divided 32miles by .75 and came up with 43 MPH...did i do this wrong?
