What is the Correct Crystal Lattice Structure?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The correct crystal lattice structure in question is the Face Centered Cubic (FCC) with an octahedral hole, as confirmed by user nb c. The discussion highlights a lack of clarity regarding the question posed, which relates to identifying the chemical formula associated with the lattice structure. Additionally, the conversation points out that the original post did not adhere to forum rules by failing to demonstrate effort in solving the problem. The mention of Bravais lattices indicates a broader context of crystal structures, emphasizing the complexity of the topic.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of crystal lattice structures
  • Familiarity with Face Centered Cubic (FCC) geometry
  • Knowledge of octahedral holes in crystal lattices
  • Basic grasp of Bravais lattices
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and applications of Face Centered Cubic (FCC) structures
  • Study the concept of octahedral holes in crystallography
  • Explore the 14 Bravais lattices and their characteristics
  • Learn about the relationship between crystal structures and chemical formulas
USEFUL FOR

Students in materials science, chemists studying crystallography, and educators seeking to clarify concepts related to crystal lattice structures.

what is this

answer choices:
a. Primitive cubic with an octahedral hole
b. Body centered cubic with an octahedral hole
c. Face centered cubic with an octahedral hole
d. None of the above
e. Not enough information to determine

We didn't talk about this in class, and this was a question on a test...this picture is in our textbook, but not in reference to what it is. I think it was something along the lines of "determine the chemical formula"...but anyway, I am at a total loss here.

nb c; Face centered cubic with an octahedral hole, is correct

Sigh. It is in a wrong forum (should be in homework section), OP didn't show any effort to answer the problem (required by the rules), and the only other post is giving the final answer (instead of guiding the OP to an answer). I should warn you both and delete the thread. Please read the forum rules.

What is the precise question?

maybe, what is the Crystal lattice structure

Well then, there are 14 different crystal lattices (the Bravais lattices) and none of them has a hole, even less an octahedral one.
