What is the Delta H in the Clausius Clapeyron equation?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, specifically focusing on how to determine the heat of vaporization (Delta H) from a given slope of a plot of ln vapor pressure versus inverse temperature. The context appears to be homework-related, with participants seeking clarification and assistance in applying the equation.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses difficulty in calculating Delta H using the slope provided from a graph of ln vapor pressure versus inverse temperature.
  • Another participant requests the formulation of the Clausius-Clapeyron equation to facilitate understanding.
  • A third participant provides the equation, including the constants involved, specifically noting the value of R as 8.3145 J/mol.
  • A later reply suggests checking another post, implying there may be additional relevant information or context available.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not appear to reach a consensus, as participants are still exploring the equation and its application without resolving the initial question posed.

Hi I am stuck on this question. I am given the slope of a ln vapor pressure vs. invert kelvin temp equals -8.000 x 10^3 K. I am supposed to find delta H (or the heat of vaporization). If anyone could help that would be great!

Can you write out the Clausius-Clapeyron equation for us?

ln P= [-delta H (heat of vaporizaiton)/R] * [1/T] + C

R=8.3145 j/mol
