The electron configuration for the cyanide ion (CN-) involves understanding its total electron count, which is 10 electrons due to the addition of an extra electron. To determine the configuration, one should first be familiar with drawing Lewis dot diagrams for simpler molecules and ions. This foundational knowledge aids in grasping the electron arrangement in CN-. It's essential to consult a textbook for detailed procedures on electron configurations. Mastering these concepts will facilitate a better understanding of more complex ions like CN-.

1. Hi, how do we make electron configuration for CN-

like O, is 8 electrons right? from periodic table.

but I have question about CN how do I do this?

Do you think they are referring to the valence elctrons?

CN- is a tricky one. I would recommend you first learn how to draw Lewis dot diagrams for simpler molecules/ions before attempting CN-. You need to first know what the procedure is first. Your textbook should cover the steps involved.
