Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of what an affordable level of global health care might look like, exploring theoretical attainability and the implications of providing basic health services to all individuals worldwide. The scope includes considerations of preventive health care, such as access to potable water and essential medications.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the feasibility of defining "affordable" in the context of global health care, suggesting that consensus among world leaders and politicians would be difficult to achieve.
  • Another participant expresses skepticism about the usefulness of discussing affordability as a hypothetical, given the complexities involved.
  • A participant proposes that access to potable water should be considered a form of preventive health care, although acknowledges that this may be a subjective viewpoint.
  • A later reply indicates a belief that there is no satisfactory answer to the question posed, suggesting a desire to close the discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the feasibility of defining affordable global health care or the value of discussing it as a hypothetical scenario. Multiple competing views remain regarding the practicality and implications of the topic.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of a clear definition of "affordable," the subjective nature of what constitutes preventive health care, and the unresolved complexities of global health care implementation.

Are there any studies that explore what an affordable level of global health care potentially looks like?

EG -

Can the human race afford potable water and sewage for all humans? If so, can we then afford making aspirin available to all humans (if that were next)? If so ...

Etc.

At a macro level, I am wondering if there are studies assessing what is theoretically attainable if everyone on the planet had equal health care.

Potable water counts as preventive health care imo, that may be a subjective judgement that there is not good agreement on.

Define "affordable". I seriously doubt that you could get agreement on ANY definition among all of the world leaders and politicians who would have to be involved in any attempt to implement such as system, so asking about it as a hypothetical is pretty much useless.

Very hypothetical question - moved to GD.
