SUMMARY

To become an inventor, particularly in robotics, students should focus on Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Physics. These disciplines provide a comprehensive foundation in mechanics, programming, and electronics design. The discussion emphasizes the importance of being a "jack of all trades" in engineering to effectively create and innovate in the field of robotics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering
  • Basic Programming Skills (e.g., Python, C++)
  • Understanding of Electronics and Circuit Design
  • Knowledge of Robotics Systems and Components
NEXT STEPS
  • Research university programs in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Physics
  • Learn about robotics design software (e.g., SolidWorks, MATLAB)
  • Explore online courses on programming for robotics (e.g., ROS - Robot Operating System)
  • Study electronics prototyping tools (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for high school students aspiring to become inventors, particularly those interested in robotics and interdisciplinary engineering fields.

I'm going to be in year 12 next year, and being an inventor was always my dream.
I think robotics are a good medium to invent with, and I want to be able to design a whole robot on my own if I need to. I want to have the ability to design the mechanics, do the programming, and design the electronics.

So what should I study at university?

Or engineering physics. I think that's probably the most jack of all trades engineering discipline.
