You would need an AC meter, which probably woudn't be as sensitive as a galvanometer.

A hot wire galvanometer would also work-- if you could find them.

In fact, instruments are made that are AC bridges. Select a frequency, amplitude and the spieces of impedence, inductance, ESR and so forth, that you want numbers for, and they display the effective values.
